Environmental Week in Preview – Week of December 16th, 2013

On October 8, the City of Ashland presented Stafford Rosenbaum attorneys Ted Waskowski and Richard Yde with a key to the City and a Certificate of Appreciation for Stafford Rosenbaum’s “extraordinary effort representing the best interest of the City of Ashland” defending the City in a federal lawsuit by Northern States Power Company, an Xcel Energy subsidiary. In presenting the key and certificate, Mayor Deb Lewis, a lawyer herself, recognized the “excellence” of the representation provided by Stafford Rosenbaum.

Last week the Wisconsin Supreme Court released an important new decision concerning employee covenants not to compete, also referred to as non-compete agreements or covenants. This is an important decision for businesses and business owners because it may give employers more freedom in requiring existing employees to sign non-compete covenants or in updating such covenants now in effect.

Following a two week trial in April and May of this year, Judge Barbara Crabb of the federal court for the Western District of Wisconsin has ruled that the City of Ashland does not have to contribute to the cost of remediating the contamination at the Superfund site in Ashland. The City was represented by Richard Yde, Ted Waskowski, Barbara Neider, Erika Bierma, Kyle Engelke, Meg Vergeront, and Laura Callan of the Stafford Rosenbaum law firm.
