March 24, 2014: An open house and informational meeting will be held regarding the Ashland Northern States Power Lakefront Superfund Site. Remediation work will begin this spring for the on-land portion of the Superfund site. Details of the activities for 2014 and the potential impacts to the neighborhood will be shared. Work is expected to run through early 2015. Representatives from Wisconsin DNR, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Northern States Power will be available before and after the presentation.
March 24, 2014: The DNR will hold a public hearing on the air pollution control permit application submitted by Hi-Crush Augusta LLC. The permit application includes plans and specifications for construction and operation of a sand silo, a railcar loading process and a conveyor linking the two new processes and a waste sand hopper with two transfer points.
March 25, 2014: The DNR will hold a public meeting regarding several parts of chs. NR 700 rule series governing investigation and remediation of environmental contamination. The meeting will discuss sections of the rules where the Department is not receiving adequate compliance and/or areas where it anticipates process or reporting changes, generally related to the following: NR 700.11 Semi-Annual reporting requirements; NR 712 Credentials required to sign NR 700 related documents; NR 718 Exemptions to NR 500 for low hazard waste; NR 722 Evaluation of green and sustainable remedial options; and NR 746 future deletion due to transfer of PECFA program and staff from DSPS to DNR.
March 27, 2014: A public meeting will be held to discuss a proposal to place dredged materials (solids removed from the bed of any surface water) from Kenosha Harbor onto property at Pennoyer Park, City of Kenosha. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to improve and maintain the navigation of the federal navigation channel at Kenosha Harbor. According to the selected disposal alternative the dredged materials (up to 25,000 cubic yards) will be placed in the above property located within the city limits of City of Kenosha.
