On the Job

Attorney James Woywod’s Practice

Attorney James Woywod is an associate in Stafford Rosenbaum’s Madison office. His practice focuses on government and municipal law, utility law, and litigation. James is an experienced advocate, having represented municipalities, businesses, nonprofit cooperatives, and individuals before trial courts, appellate courts, and administrative agencies throughout Wisconsin.

Recognizing the pressures and stress that legal disputes often present for clients, James brings an even-tempered and methodical approach to his work. James is experienced in handling all phases of litigation, including pleadings, written and oral discovery, dispositive motions, jury and bench trials, and appeals.

Prior to joining Stafford Rosenbaum, James served clients at another Madison-area firm where he represented and counseled generation and transmission utilities, electric distribution cooperatives, project developers, and other energy-sector clients in regulatory matters, including contested cases before the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. A former assistant district attorney and municipal prosecutor, James has significant courtroom experience having handled numerous evidentiary hearings and jury trials in felony, misdemeanor, and civil matters. Earlier in his career, James was a staff attorney for a nonprofit organization tasked with representing the interests of residential and small business public utility customers, and he also served as an assistant city attorney for a municipality in suburban Chicago.
