On the Job

Attorney Ian Lane’s Practice

Attorney Ian Lane is an associate in Stafford Rosenbaum’s Madison office. He practices government law and works closely with local municipalities on matters that arise within Wisconsin’s cities, towns, and villages. Ian is also building a business law practice, enjoying projects involving construction, real estate, land use work, as well as assisting employers and business owners with employment law matters. He thrives in fast-paced environments with clients who are always on the move, and he loves new challenges that serve as growth opportunities for him.

Prior to joining Stafford Rosenbaum, Ian was a law clerk at a small Milwaukee firm assisting clients in various employment law and employment discrimination cases. During his time at Marquette Law School, he was a student mediator for the Marquette Mediation Clinic at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, where he successfully mediated several disputes among pro se litigants in small claims matters. Ian was also a student associate for the Marquette Law and Entrepreneurship Clinic, conducting a variety of transactional work for small businesses in the Milwaukee area, including drafting complex agreements, intellectual property protections, and business formation work.

A special highlight from law school, Ian gained valuable research experience and courtroom procedure knowledge as a judicial intern for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Jill Karofsky. Ian was also an award-winning staff editor for the Marquette Benefits and Social Welfare Law Review, including the Outstanding Staff Editor Award.

Ian is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin.

Ian’s Education

Off the Job

“Outdoor enthusiast” is an understatement for Ian in his personal life. An avid hiker, fisherman, hunter, and camper, he travels frequently all across the country doing backcountry hiking and camping (Southern Utah is his favorite place for these activities). He even helps a friend document their outdoor adventures on a YouTube channel. Ian has recently completed a lifelong goal of visiting every single State Park in Wisconsin, and all of this exploration is made complete when he can do so with his golden retriever. Ian is also a lifelong player and follower of hockey, a big fan of Formula 1 racing, and a football fan.

Having lived in Minneapolis during undergrad and in Milwaukee while attending Marquette Law School, it has always been Ian’s dream to return to the Madison area to work within the community where he was born and raised.
