Attorney Jeff Mandell Receives Wisconsin and Nationwide Attention on Redistricting and Wisconsin Legislative Maps
Stafford Rosenbaum Partner Jeff Mandell made an appearance on the November 19, 2023 edition of UpFront, a Wisconsin TV broadcast produced by ABC on Sunday mornings. He is part of the counsel team leading oral arguments before the Wisconsin Supreme Court on November 21 to argue that the state’s legislative maps violate state constitutional standards and to request redistricting in time for the 2024 elections. On UpFront, he discussed why the existing maps are unconstitutional and explained that this lawsuit is about democracy not about partisanship. Attorney Mandell was interviewed by NPR recently for a segment aired during All Things Considered on November 20. He explained that the Wisconsin Constitution requires each of the state’s 132 legislative districts to be contiguous – but the majority of them are not, which “dilutes the ability of voters to unify behind common interests.”
Published on November 20, Jeff was quoted in The Guardian for another preview article about the redistricting argument, in which he argued that the contiguity issue is important because the noncontiguous nature of the current map “is not a mistake or a slight mapmaking error or an oversight. It’s deliberate and it’s anti-democratic.”
