Stafford partner, Laura Skilton Verhoff was re-elected to serve a two-year term as District 9 representative on the State Bar Board of Governors. The Board of Governors manages and directs the affairs and activities of the State Bar of Wisconsin. The boardincludes: the association's five officers, the immediate past president (all of whom are ex officio members-at-large of the board), 35 members elected from the State Bar districts, one member selected by the Young Lawyers Division, one member selected by the Government Lawyers Division, one member selected by the Senior Lawyers Division, five members selected by the Nonresident Lawyers Division, and three nonlawyers appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Laura’s practice includes creditors' rights in bankruptcy, litigation, and estate planning and probate. Laura regularly represents creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy, such as lift of stay litigation, preferences, fraudulent conveyances, post petition financing and plan negotiation, and plan confirmation. In addition, she routinely represents banks and insurance companies in foreclosures. Her litigation practice includes lemon law and breach of warranty, collection, subrogation and insurance litigation. She also handles a broad range of estate planning and probate matters. As a result of her litigation and estate planning experience, she also handles a wide variety of contested probate matters. She frequently appears in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy courts, and also has handledappeals to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Wisconsin and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
